Carbon labelling
Carbon is undoubtedly the most universal and important global language and now currency. Carbon emissions are an enormous issue that affect every person on the planet, yet the sources of these emissions are highly inequitable.
Those of us in industrialised countries such as the UK need to make massive steps in reducing our carbon footprint, and of course food is a very important part of this. Interestingly this message appears to be getting through to consumers as recent research from the University of Newcastle showed 72% of counsumers questioned wanted carbon labelling on food products. See press release here.
Climate Friendly Food is rolling out a package to farmers and growers to certify their farms as low carbon, and to market this fact through labels on food to their customers. As this programme rolls out we'll post more here, with the aim of creating a low carbon food directory for consumers to choose food with a low carbon footprint.
