Our Potential
Climate Friendly Food was set up to promote practices that reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of farms.
During the development of the farmer and growers carbon calculator, we made the exciting discovery that correct farm practice - we term it "rich soil farming" - has such a powerful potential to absorb carbon dioxide that if practiced on a global scale it could play a major role in bringing down atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
CFF is dedicated to developing and promoting best practice for maximum carbon sequestration on farms in the UK and internationally to make real the vast potential of agriculture in the move to avert climate change.
By using the CFF carbon calculator and practicing low carbon farming techniques, farms can shift from being net emitters to net carbon dioxide sinks. The IPCC estimates that agriculture has the potential to absorb around 20% of current total global CO2 emissions. CFF is developing practices that attain even higher sequestration rates per acre than those used in the IPCC estimates.
An article written by Mukti Mitchell about CFF's work will be appearing in the November/December issue of Resurgence Magazine (www.resurgence.org). A pdf download is available in the download area.
